Welcome to the first Unofficial GMA 500 Driver Support website for Windows!
This project started in August 2012 when I thought,for the first time, that informations about this GPU were fragmentary and available on too many forums with too many pages!
So finally I decided to upload all into one blog  where people could find easily and quickly news and optimized drivers.
From that day over 200.000+ visitors, from all over the world, saw the first GMA 500 blog for Windows. Thank you!
In this website you can find also all you need to make your GMA 500 faster and INTEL ATOM Tips.
I talk about many things that you can read on older pages as how to: improve fsb; improve ram,video players,windows,web performance;ect ect. So it's better that you read all the blog before write a comment! (27 posts aren't too much).
The driver available here is programmed by Official Intel Embedded Team and fixed by me for a perfect fit on US15 platform (small form factor of US15W: GMA500 Devices).
Actually my release is compatible with various devices but not all cause it's not possible to determinate all displays configurations (All stuff posted is tested by my trusted device ASUS 1101HA)

09 Jan 2021 Optimus IEMGD (Win 7,8,8.1,10) freeware ALPHA is out!
12 Jan 2021:
-Windows 7 doesn't handle XDDM driver (xp release) backlight anymore, don't know what's wrong with Microsoft in these years(no problem with WDDM but it is another control). I will not check it, it's an obsolete soc to have a look at Microsoft documents.Probably needed acpi fix
-Intel deleted Official Xp and Vista driver web page...now only avaiable win 7 version (error or not?). Intel.com US support can't help for an EOS soc 😂 anyway still avaiable Emgd and OEM releases
-Uploaded again VBIOS patched,software and ASUS 1101ha rom patched in Optimus IEMGD post
-Backuped EMGD suite
-Retested Windows 10 2021 but nothing relevant, use windows 7 home premium 32bit or lite editions

GMA 500 vs GMA 600: Is it Overclockable?

From the first time i got GMA 500 i understood that the only way to increase performances were overclock and a good driver.Today  I'll explain my dubt about these two GPUs: GMA 500 vs GMA 600.
Looking for how to overclock video card i've find some interesting informations.
Summary
  • From wiki:The core for Gma 500 and 600 is the same "PowerVR SGX535"  by Imagination technologies (strange 2008 vs 2010 product. I hope they make a revision) but with different freq 200MHz vs 400MHz
  • From imagtech.com: There is no specific datasheet but you can only read that series IP5 can run up to 400MHz (HERE)
  • From intel documents: GMA500 can be clocked @266MHz but all other frequencies are reserved.I've try to look at gma600 documents but i didn't find nothing about it.
From all these infos i know that SGX535 was clocked on:
UL11L platform freq @100MHz
US15  plarform freq @200MHz
US15x platform freq @266MHz
GMA600 netbook freq @400MHz

Looking for any solution i've studied different programs(GmaBooster and SetIGP utility develop mainly for i945) and intel documents.
Results were that there are two ways to manage GPU frequency:
  1. Increasing FSB (Front Side Bus) with SetFsb or your overclock tool  (read Intel ATOM Overclock Section)
  2. Changing ratio on GCR Register, pictures down are for our GMA 500 [Intel US15 Datasheet (HERE)]

You can try to operate manually or just using my small application called GMA500 Hidden Settings

GMA500 Hidden Settings is an easy EXPERIMENTAL tool to modify Intel GMA 500 Settings.
The Program isn't for common users but only for people who like testing at OWN RISK!
(Based on GPU Datasheet, IEMG and Windows Settings)
TESTED on ASUS 1101HA (sadly on my device doesn't work correctly GPU OverClock)
Note.Restarting notebook all hardware values will returns to DEFAULT!

FAQ
How does it work? For Hardware Section, it sends new value to VGA controller via RWeverything
For Software Section use Windows Regestry. Read this POST to know the story project.
Utility or Inutility? Well, I really don't know if can be useful. I'm a common User not an Intel's Engineer so try and look if there are differences :)
Note.Some Windows Tools may not work on older Windows O.S.
Compatibility:
Hardware Section Windows XP/7/8/8.1
Software Section (Avalon\Performance Mode\Windows Tools\Brightness) Windows 7/8/8.1
Note. Triple buffer works also on Win XP.

Guide:
-Memory Preallocated is RAM stolen given to GPU during boot system.
Default value=8MB [Check results with GPUz]
-Memory Multisize is RAM given in OS (Default is 256MB). It should be edited by DVMT (Dynamic Video Memory Technology)
-Power States: Power Saving (D3) - Full Power (D0).  [Default is D0]
-2D Engine: Unknow Function
-Graphic Clock: This function should not work  on  standard US15
-Bus Master: This function,normally,reduces CPU Stress. Default=Enabled
-I/O Space: Unknow Function
-WPF Harware Acceleration: You should find a wpf application to test. Default is enabled.
-Performance Mode: Default is enabled.
-Vsync Fix+Triple Buffer: When you saw an image with misalignment can be a Vertical Sync problem and with this solution vsync will be enabled in postprocessing. Triple Buffer is used to reduce the fps drop down with Vsync.

Test with XP Driver on Win 7 SP1. Not stable using:
RAM Multisize: 128MB or UNKNOW
2D Profile: Set2 or Set4
All Graphic Clock Values

  1. Unrar Archive
  2. Run GMA500 Hidden Settings.exe
  3. Select a value from list and after SET or RUN

Understanding GPU DSDT Section

DSDT (Differentiated System Description Table) is a part of ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) stored in BIOS.
I never take a look inside it but anyway when i was try to understand how to overclock my CPU via bios editing i found some strings about GPU (aka GFX)
Probably these strings determinate when the video card is enabled\disabled but i can't be sure.
If anyone know something can write down here!
Just open, with RWeverything or Windows 8, the ACPI table\DSDT and look for GFX0


GMA 500 VIDEO BIOS

The Video BIOS provides a set of video-related functions that are used by programs to access the video hardware. Through CED is possible to generate vBios for US15 but isn't included a flasher.

History:
All starts with my  foolish idea of increasing GMA500 performance and a "mistake" reading 
white-paper about CED:
Chapter 4.0 talks about : <<VBIOS includes support for the following chipsets:
• Intel® Atom™ Processor E6xx
• Intel® System Controller Hub US15W/US15WP/WPT chipset
Enabling the SMSW instructions used when Intel® EMGD VBIOS sets up its caching
functions increases the boot speed during POST and system boot.
The host system must have a 32-bit Microsoft Windows operating.
The target system must contain one of the following Intel chipsets:
• Intel® Atom™ Processor E6xx
• Intel® System Controller Hub US15W/US15WP/WPT chipset
The target system must contain a minimum of 64 MB of RAM.>>
I so imaged that was enought to build a default vbios and ask for the AVBU flasher (AMI Video Bios Utility) but it wasn't so easy!
I've missed to read Appendix E: <<AVBU Supported Hardware Platforms
Currently the utility exclusively supports the Intel® Atom™ Processor E660 with Intel®
Platform Controller Hub EG20T Development Kit>>
Anyway i found the way to upload new vbios to system bios with AMI MmTool (Bios Mods SECTION):
VideoBios on US15 is 64KB file

Is Possible to restore Default Settings reflashing Asus 1101HA Bios 0323 (download it from Asus)
Note. vBios support is closed  because:
-I didn't find any way to fix bugs (read above) 
-It's better standard vbios on our netbooks

VGA output not working
I didn't see any advantage using embedded vbios probably because isn't designed for a multipurpose device. I suggest to leave IBM standard vbios for common users.

How to flash: (2 Solutions)
1)Copy 1101HA.rom into a pendrive 
2)Shutdown pc
3)Press ALT+F2 on system boot (will start Bios Upgrade) 

Second Solution: On windows->Run AsusUpdate Tool->Select Update Bios from File

Summary:
IEMG vBios doesn't increase performances
IEMG vBios brings a lot of minor bugs on a multipuporse device (netbook)
Intel BMP Utility Doesn't work with GMA 500
AVBU is only compatible with E6xx series

BIOS MODS

Looking for new solutions about tweaks and overclocking I found a great discussion on eeeuser.com.
There is an explained method to edit AMI Bios on ASUS 1000HE  and I tried to modify Asus 1101ha bios.. for anyone who is interested I opened a thread on bios mod (English see link above)
Overclock is possible on any eeePC but need a good knowledge! (Dummies don't play your netbook)

ITA.Cercando nuove soluzioni per l'overclock della macchina sono caduto sul sito bios-mods.com.
Oltre ad aver trovato un bios per asus 1101ha con la whitelist per i moduli wifi, ho trovato un interessante post riguardo alla possibilità di modificare i parametri SHE dal bios su un'altro modello.
Su questo sito  viene illustrata la procedura di modifica dell' ASUS 1000HE.
Ho già provato a chiedere su bios-mods cosa ne pensano ma non ho avuto ancora risposta!
Le divergenze sulla metodica,sui pc dotati di she, di modifica credo nascano dalla possibilità di poter scegliere 6 tipi di Boost (da 0,5 al 30%) e per adesso ho trovato solo un pacchetto dati suddivisibile, in linea teoria, in Power - High - Super Performace Mode.
Chi ha idee può postare qui sotto ;)

For win users: [?] Seems to be only avaiable with Bios Update but for my netbook updates are dismissed.
Editing Bios:
Actually I've found Intel microcode package 2011 (downloadable from Bios-mods.com ->Download Section->Option Rom)

Add: This is MicroDECODE for extract bin file from dat file: DOWNLOAD

Strange Unknow Error:
Mmtool tells ver 211 instruction are into bios
AIDA64 (ex Everest) and RWeverthing vers217
Let's modify bios and check what happen..Don't modify bios if you are a dummy: with wrong bios pc can't start!
Result: Nothing change!

ASUS 1000HE BIOS MOD for CPU Clock
Online are available patched bios with stock frequencies increased.
Here there is an old guide of the method:
Disclaimer: Mod the BIOS at your own risk. If you are not familiar with it, find someone to mod it for you or else you may end up ruinning your EeePC!
Credit: htsky & macauman (Eeeusers.com METHOD for EeePC 1000)

 Tools you need:
 1. MMTOOL and IASL
 2. WinHEX

 First, use MMTOOL to extract module 1B from the BIOS
 1. "Load ROM"
 2. Select the ROM you want to mod
 3. Go to the "Extract" tab
 4. Select the module "1B" and choose a path to save it
 5. "Extract"
 6. Minimize MMTOOL

Use WinHex to open the extracted file and search for "DSDT"
RIGHT CLICK AT THE "D" POSITION and chose "Beginning of block"
Search for "wkh"
RIGHT CLICK AT THE "H" POSITION and choose "End of block"
The entire block will be selected now. Right click inside the selected area and choose "Edit"
Proceed to "Copy Block" ----> "Into New File"
Save it as DSDT.aml. and minimize WinHex.
Put iasl.exe into the same directory
Use CMD, go to that directory and execute "iasl -d DSDT.aml" and DSDT.dsl will be created.

Use notepad to edit DSDT.dsl. Search for "Package (0x0A)" and there will be 6 packages.
DON'T TOUCH THE FIRST 3.
The forth one correspond to Super Performance Mode.
The fifth one correspond to High Performance Mode.
The sixth one correspond to Power Saver Mode.
Replace the package with the code you want:

Save the changes. Execute "iasl DSDT.dsl" in CMD. There should be 0 ERRORS.
Go back to WinHex. It will ask you to update the change on DSDT.aml. Just update it.
Select the whole DSDT.aml and copy the code. Go back to module "1B"
Go back to the beginning of the selected block.
RIGHT CLICK AT THE BEGINNING "4" POSITION and choose "Edit"
Proceed to "Clipboard Data" ----> "Write" and the save the changes on module "1B"
Go back to MMTOOL and insert the modified module "1B" back to the BIOS ROM.
 1. Go to the "Replace" tab
 2. Select module "1B" from the window below
 3. Select the path of the modified module 1B
 4. "Replace"
Congradulations! You are done now. Go flash your BIOS and enjoy. =]
P.S. How to find generator:
Run SetFSB and set a new CPU clock than run RW and read FSB code
notes>1.66G =One Zero  ; <1.66G =Zero One
